I think that most people trying to find the balance between work and home are wanting more focus on home and less focus on work.
I am currently in a different scale of wanting. I just started my job at the city in January. I love it! It’s interesting, exciting, and fulfilling. We were off yesterday for President’s Day, and I’m sure that most people were happy to have a long weekend away from work, but I would have rather been at my job.
Don’t get me wrong, I was grateful for the beautiful day full of sunshine and light breezes, but the Angry Kitty Ranch where I currently reside is a lot of hard work. I feel like I gotta go to work just to rest.
Spring is sneaking in, and I’m not gonna lie, I slacked for the brunt of winter. As I have gotten older, I don’t like the cold, the freezing, the snow, the ice and instead prefer either spring or fall.
I decided to work in the garden yesterday. The soil needs to be worked for planting. In the fall, I built a fence around the garden area with an access gate from the piglet pen, so that we could let the little pigs work the garden. They did their job, and over the winter, my brother and his wife added poop scoops from the horse and cow pens. The chickens worked the scoops, but now the compost needs to be worked into the soil.

I had a little help from the newest working dog, Goose.
I raked, shoveled, hoed, and turned the dirt for the most part of the day. When the alfalfa hay arrived, I fed and watered all the animals. When my brother and his wife returned from their trip, I helped him unload the back of his truck, which was full of firewood and complementary fire ants.
When we were done, we talked over a couple of beers. I told him that I was done with this day, because I was so tired from busting my ass in the garden, and he said that he felt like he didn’t get anything accomplished at home because of his trip and now that he was back, it was getting dark and work starts back up in the morning.
In the grand scheme of things, maybe my brother and I have created a balance…I’d like to think so. Cheers! And have a great day!
